Frequently
Asked
Questions
We'll be out of town for some of these days. Is that okay?
We understand that summer is a busy time for family trips. If your athlete misses some of our time together it's okay. We'll be learning and developing while you are away and your athlete will catch up when she returns.
Is there tackling or physical contact in the game of flag football?
No, there is no tackling in flag football. In fact, unlike tackle football physical contact is NOT permitted in flag football. Players wear flags and defenders are tasked with removing flags in order to "tackle" their opponent.
Will players wear helmets or mouth guards for games or practices?
No helmets are worn. Mouth guards and receiver gloves are optional.
What do I wear?
We ask that you wear athletic pants or shorts with no pockets or belt loops. Players will be asked to tuck their shirts in if the shirt hangs below the belt line. Please remove watches/dangling jewelry. In our experience soccer cleats work the best but trail runners are also a good option. Sun protection in the form of a hat and sunscreen are both strongly recommended. Don't forget to bring water with you to games and practices.
Do I need to buy a football or a flag belt? What about a girls flag football shirt?
Flag belts and footballs will be provided to all teams at each practice and games. It would be a good idea for athletes to have their own ball at home to practice throwing and catching. All players will be provided a shirt. Shirt sizes will be requested at the time of registration.
What if I don't know how to play or can't throw a football?
You don't need to know how to play football or be great at throwing a football. Volunteer coaches will work alongside Greg to ensure that all players understand how to play and establish themselves as successful players. The most important thing is that players work hard, pay attention, and bring a positive mindset to the field.
I don't know anyone else who is signing up,
what team will I be on?
If you can't convince your besties to join you that's okay! We'll make sure you are on an age appropriate team with other gals.
I am willing to be a volunteer coach or help out a different way. What's it entail?
Volunteer coaches must have a player on the team & will be provided the necessary equipment, training, and support to lead the team in practices, scrimmages, and games. Greg will handle the scheduling and help you as much, or as little, as you need. If you want to help out in a different way let us know!

Are you available to run a skills session for my group outside of season?
Yes! We realize that there's never been an all-girls flag football program on the North Shore and that this might be the first time the girls have had a chance to try out the sport. We'd be glad to come to your location and run a camp to get the girls exposed to flag football. Outside of our regular programming we're happy to work with co-ed groups at your local park, school, etc. Drop us an email to discuss!
I am a youth athlete playing on a girls sports team in high school, do you need any refs?
Absolutely! Female referees in sports are important because they help to break down gender stereotypes, promote gender equality, and provide a diverse perspective. Female referees help to challenge the idea that sports are only for men and can inspire young girls to pursue their own interests and goals, including leadership roles in sports. How many minutes before our official start time should I arrive?
Please arrive 15 minutes early. In that time we'll make sure all your gear is on properly and get warmed up. We want to be able to start promptly with all athletes on the field. Preparedness and punctuality are two characteristics of great leaders and teammates!
I want to be grouped with a friend..or 2...or 3! Is that allowed?
We get it, life is better with a buddy! We are happy to do our best to honor friend requests! During registration make a note of it or let us know ASAP and we'll do our best to make it happen.
